Oscillando tra l’ironia e il dramma, Gabriel Abrantes e Benjamin Crotty girano la storia d’amore tra una ricca ragazza cinese e l’africano Liberdade, ambientata nella capitale angolana Luanda. Facendo il verso alle love stories hollywoodiane, Liberdade offre accenni a quella che potrebbe essere la versione non occidentale di un melodramma degli anni duemila. Circondati da palazzi in rovina, discariche e miseria, gli innamorati cercano e trovano ancora attorno a loro dei residui di bellezza, mentre le sontuose riprese aeree di Abrantes ci mostrano un paesaggio straziato.

Ranging from irony to drama, Gabriel Abrantes and Benjamin Crotty film the love story, set in the Angolan capital Luanda, between a rich Chinese girl and the African Liberdade. Mocking typical Hollywood love stories, Liberdade provides us hints of what may be the version of a non-Western melodrama of the years 2000s. Surrounded by ruined buildings, landfills and misery, the lovers seek and yet still find around them residues of beauty, while the sumptuous aerial shots of Abrantes show us a tormented landscape.
