The Misandrists ci racconta di un gruppo eversivo di femministe che sotto la guida della Grande Madre (Susanne Sachsse), intendono invertire il processo storico che ha visto le donne da sempre sottomesse al patriarcato per dar vita a nuovo mondo unicamente femminile. Per farlo utilizzano ogni mezzo possibile, dai filmati porno per l’autofinanziamento e la promozione dell’amore saffico, al cambio di sesso forzosamente imposto agli odiati uomini. Dopo il romanticismo fuori dagli schemi di Gerontophilia, LaBruce passa ad un film più “militante”, ennesimo tassello della sua personale crociata contro ogni forma di conformismo e perbenismo borghese, ricordandoci il potere politico che ricopre tutt’oggi la sessualità in ognuna delle sue sfaccettature, che mostrata con ironia e un tocco di perversione crea nei suoi film un mix esplosivo e a suo modo gioiosamente rivoluzionario.

The Misandrists tells the story of a feminist subversive group, led by the Great Mother (Susanne Sachsse), endeavouring to forge a new female-centric world order by reverting the historical processes that have condemned women to be subjugated to a patriarchal society. They will resort to any means to achieve their mission, using pornography to fund their efforts and promote sapphic love, and even forcing sex change therapy unto men. After the unconventional romance portrayed in Gerontophilia, LaBruce moves on to a more “militant” movie, taking another step in his personal crusade against bourgeoise conservative conformism and self-righteousness, reminding us of the political power still carried by sexuality in its multifaceted nature, which he expounds with irony and a touch of depravation to create an explosive, joyfully revolutionary concoction.

Bruce LaBruce (1964) è regista, scrittore, fotografo e sceneggiatore canadese. Tra i fondatori del New Queer Cinema, LaBruce esordisce e diventa noto tramite la rivista queercore di ispirazione punk J.D.s. Parallelamente al suo lavoro di regista è scrittore e fotografo presso le riviste Nerve.com e Black Book Magazine. Nei suoi film mescola il linguaggio della pornografia gay ad elementi stilistici della cinematografia indipendente. Tra i suoi film recenti: Otto, or Up with dead People (2008), L.A. Zombie (2010), Gerontophilia (presentato al Sicilia Queer filmfest 2014), Pierrot Lunaire (2014) Ulrike’s Brain (2017).

Bruce LaBruce (1964) is a Canadian director, screenwriter and photographer. Amongst the founders of New Queer Cinema, LaBruce made his debut and initially gained his name on the pages of queercore punk magazine J.D.s. Besides his film director career, he writes and works as a photographer for Nerve.com and Black Book Magazine. His movies feature a characteristic blend between the jargon of gay pornography and stylistic traits of independent cinema. His latest works include Otto, or Up with dead People (2008), L.A. Zombie (2010), Gerontophilia (presented at Sicilia Queer filmfest 2014), Pierrot Lunaire (2014) and Ulrike’s Brain (2017).
