Kyoko, una giovane artista da tutti considerata un genio poliedrico, vive nel suo coloratissimo appartamento in un costante stato di schizofrenica auto-venerazione. Sfoga le sue frustrazioni umiliando la povera segretaria Noriko, di cui si serve anche per placare le proprie pulsioni sessuali. Osannata dalla stampa e riverita da Noriko, Kyoko può permettersi di fare ciò che vuole. Poi però il regista chiama il cut ed il ruoli si invertono: Kyoko è una giovane attrice insicura che viene maltrattata da tutti i suoi colleghi, dal regista ma, soprattutto, dalla famosa e navigata Noriko. Ma qual è la realtà e quale la finzione? In questo omaggio al filone del roman porno, Sion Sono mette in scena un bizzarro delirio schizofrenico che, servendosi di metalinguaggi e strumenti onirici, analizza l’immaginario erotico giapponese, i suoi tabù ed il ruolo della donna nella società contemporenea.

Kyoko, a young artist considerated by everyone a multifaceted genius, lives in her colorful apartment in a permanent state of schizophrenic self-veneration. She unload her frustrations humiliating her poor secretary Noriko, which also use to satisfy her own sexual impulses. Praised by the press and revered by Noriko, Kyoko can do what she wants. Then the director calls the CUT ed the roles are reversed: Kyoko now is a young insecure actress abused by all her collegues, the director and, most of all, by the famous and experienced Noriko. But, which is reality and which is fiction? In this tribute to roman porno genre, Sion Sono stages a bizarre schizophrenic delirious that, using metalanguages and dreamlike instruments, analizes the japanese erotic repertoire, its taboo and the role of woman in contemporary society.

Nato ad Aichi, Giappone. Sion Sono è stato riconosciuto dal pubblico quando ha vinto il Gran Premio al Pia Film Festival nel 1987 per A Man’s Hanamichi. Love Exposure (2009) ha vinto il Caligari Film Award e il FIPRESCI Award durante la Berlinale nel 2009. Il successo di Cold Fish(2010) ha segnato la crescita del successo dei lavori di Sono ed è stato proiettato da numerosi festival, incluso il 67esimo Festival del Cinema di Venezia e il Toronto International Film Festival nel 2010. Guilty of Romanca (2011) è stato proiettato all’interno della sezione Quinzaine des Réalisateurs al Festival di Cannes ed il successivo Himizu (2012) ha vinto il premio Marcello Mastroianni per I suoi due giovani attori protagonisti al 68esi Festival del Cinema di Venezia. Nel 2015, alla 19esima edizione del Fantasia International Film Festival, TAG (2015) ha vinto il premio per il Miglior Film, la Miglior Attrice Protagonista e una menzione speciale mentre Love & Peace (2015) ha vinto il premio del pubblico come Miglior Film Asiatico. Il suo ultimo film The Whispering Star (2015) ha vinto il NETPAC Award come Miglior Film Asiatico al Toronto International Film Festival.

Born in Aichi, Japan. Sion Sono came to the public eye when he won the Pia Film Festival Grand Prize in 1987 for A Man's Hanamichi. Love Exposure (2009) won the Caligari Film Award and the FIPRESCI Award at Berlinale in 2009. The success of Cold Fish (2010) marked an even greater interest in Sono’s work and was screened by numerous festivals, including the 67th Venice Film Festival, and the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. Guilty of Romance (2011) was screened as part of the 2011 Cannes International Film Festival's Director's Fortnight section, and his subsequent Himizu (2012) picked up the Marcello Mastroianni Award for its two young leads at the 68th Venice International Film Festival. In 2015, at the 19th Fantasia International Film Festival, TAG (2015) won the Best Film Award, Best Actress Award, Special Mention and Love & Peace (2015) won the audience award as Best Asian Feature as well. His latest film The Whispering Star (2015) won the NETPAC award as the Best Asian Film at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
