Claire Simon è una regista francese nata a Londra. Inizia la sua carriera come montatrice, avvicinandosi alla regia prima tramite la realizzazione di una serie di cortometraggi, poi studiando la corrente documentaristica del direct cinema ai prestigiosi Ateliers Varan. Di questo periodo, tra gli altri, Les Patients, Récréations e Coûte que coûte vengono premiati al festival Cinema du Reél. Nel 1997 il suo primo lungometraggio di finzione Sinon, oui è presentato alla Quinzaine des Réalisateurs durante il Festival di Cannes. Tre anni dopo con Ça, c'est vraiment toi (2000) vince il Gran Premio al Belfort Film Festival. Nel 2006 e nel 2008, torna al Festival di Cannes rispettivamente con Ça brûle e Les bureaux de Dieu. Nel 2013, affascinata dall’universo contenuto nella stazione ferroviaria di Parigi, gira l’omonimo Gare du Nord ed il documentario collaterale Géographie humaine. Le bois dont les rêves sont faits (2015), presentato a Palermo durante la sesta edizione del Sicilia Queer Filmfest è stato considerato dalla prestigiosa rivista Cahiers du Cinéma tra I dieci film più belli dell’anno. Le Concours (2016) è il suo ultimo lungometraggio, con cui ha vinto il Leone d’Oro Premio Venezia Classici per il Miglior Documentario sul Cinema alle 73esima edizione della Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia.

Claire Simon is a French director born in London. She begins his career as an editor, approaching direction shooting a series of short movies, then studying direct cinema at the prestigious Ateliers Varan. From this period, among the others, Les Patients, Récréations e Coûte que coûte are awarded at Cinema du Reél festival. In 1997 her first feature film Sinon, oui was premiered at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs during the Cannes Film Festival. Three year after with Ça, c'est vraiment toi (2000) she won the Gran Prix at Belfort Film Festival. In 2006 and 2008, she returns to Cannes respectively with Ça brûle and Les bureaux de Dieu. In 2013, fascinated by the universe inside Paris train station, she directs the namesake Gare du Nord and the collateral documentary Géographie humaine.  Le bois dont les rêves sont faits (2015), presented in Palermo during Sicilia Queer Filmfest sixth edition is evaluated by the prestigious magazine Cahiers du Cinéma among the 10 best movies of the year. Le Concours (2016) is her most recent work with whom she won the Golden Lion Award as Venice Classics Best Documentary at the 73th ediotion of the Venice Film Festival.
