C’è un mondo pieno di fantasia e immaginazione nella quotidianità della quindicenne Rita. Nei torridi pomeriggi di un’estate portoghese, Rita e la sua amica del cuore Sara vivono le loro avventure dentro e fuori il condominio nel quale l’arrivo di un nuovo e misterioso vicino farà palpitare il cuore della protagonista spingendola ad abbandonarsi a fantasticare sulla vita e sul mondo. L’adolescenza e il sogno di un amore impossibile faranno il resto, trasformando il tranquillo quartiere di Lisbona in un luogo magico e meraviglioso, come un’isola della Melanesia nel cuore dell’Oceano Pacifico. Realtà e immaginazione si confondono nella ironica ed eccentrica ricostruzione della calda estate di due adolescenti.

Fifteen-year-old Rita lives in a world full of fantasy and imagination. In the sweltering afternoons of a Portuguese summer, Rita and her best friend Sara live out their adventures within and around their apartment building. The arrival of a mysterious new neighbour makes Rita’s heart beat and inspires her to indulge in daydreams about life and the world. Adolescence and the dream of impossible love turn a quiet Lisbon neighbourhood in a magical and amazing place, like a Malaysian island in the heart of the Pacific Ocean. Reality and imagination intermingle in this ironic and eccentric reconstruction of two teenagers’ hot summer.

João Nicolau è nato a Lisbona nel 1975. Lavora come regista, montatore, attore e musicista, ed è stato assistente di João César Monteiro. Ha diretto A Espada e a Rosa (2010), John From (2015) e i corti Rapace (2006), Canção de Amor e Saúde (2009), O dom das lágrimas (2012) e Gambozinos (2013). I suoi film sono stati proiettati in importanti festival quali Cannes, Venezia, Locarno, San Paolo, Vienna e il BAFICI.

João Nicolau was born in Lisbon in 1975. He works as a director, editor, actor, and musician, and he was João César Monteiro’s assistant. He directed feature films including The Sword and the Rose (2010) and John From (2015) and the shorts Bird of Prey (2006), Song of Love and Health (2009), The Gift of Tears (2012), and Wild Haggis (2013). His films are regularly shown in prestigious film festivals including Cannes, Venice, Locarno, São Paulo, Vienna, and BAFICI.
