Buster entra in un teatro dove tutti i componenti dell’orchestra, il pubblico, i tecnici e il direttore hanno le sembianze di Buster Keaton. Dopo aver assistito a questo surreale spettacolo lo vediamo svegliarsi sul suo letto svelandoci che in verità era tutto un sogno. Degli uomini lo buttano giù dal letto all’interno della sua stanza ma le apparenze ingannano ancora, basta spostare le pareti per capire che si tratta di un teatro dove Buster lavora come tecnico. Tra i cortometraggi più celebri di Keaton, The Playhouse presenta una sperimentazione tecnica all’avanguardia per i tempi con la ripetizione fino a nove volte della figura di Keaton sul palcoscenico.
Buster enters a theater where all the musicians, the audience, the technicians, and the director look like him. After this surreal episode, he wakes up and the truth is revealed: it was all just a dream. Some men then pull him out of his bed, but once again appearances are deceiving. The walls are pulled away, and we realize that Buster is not in his own room, but rather in the theater where he works as a technician. This is one of Keaton's most famous shorts. Eddie Cline e Buster Keaton collaborarono all’inizio degli anni ’20 dirigendo insieme diciassette cortometraggi che sono considerati l’apice delle loro rispettive carriere. I due avevano già lavorato insieme come attori all’interno del gruppo comico The Keystone Cops diretti dal regista Mack Sennett. Dopo la loro separazione, Eddie Cline ebbe comunque una carriera di successo collaborando con attori come W. C. Fields dirigendo opere di un certo rilievo come Million dollar legs (1932).
Eddie Cline and Buster Keaton collaborated in the early 1920s; together, they directed seventeen shorts that are considered the highlights of their respective careers. The pair had already worked together as part of the Keystone Cops, a group that featured in a series of comedies directed by Mack Sennett. After they parted ways, Eddie Cline had a successful career. He collaborated with W.C. Fields and directed important works including Million dollar legs (1932).
