Buster è al luna park, tra una visita all’interno della casa stregata e un giro su una giostra, si ritrova un po’ per caso ad assistere al lancio di un pallone aerostatico. In seguito a un errore e a molta distrazione lo troviamo a volare sul pallone che diventerà la sua casa fino a quando non lo bucherà provando a sparare a un’anatra precipitando in un bosco. Lì continueranno le sue avventure con pericolosi orsi, canoe smontabili e una donna che il giovane Buster proverà a conquistare. Con una costruzione più varia di altri suoi lavori, The Ballonatic rappresenta emblematicamente il metodo di lavoro di Keaton, numerose improvvisazioni all’interno di una struttura coerente e consapevolmente cinematografica.
Buster goes to the amusement park. After visiting the House of Horrors and taking a ride on the merry-go-round, he ends up helping out with the launch of a hot air balloon. Due to a misunderstanding and some distraction on Buster's part, he finds himself flying the balloon. It becomes his home until, while trying to shoot a duck, he punctures the balloon and crashes it in a forest. His adventures continue with dangerous bears, canoes, and a woman that he tries to seduce. This film's construction is more varied than that of his other works, and it is an emblematic representation of Keaton's working method -- numerous improvisations contained within a coherent and intentional cinematographic structure.

Eddie Cline e Buster Keaton collaborarono all’inizio degli anni ’20 dirigendo insieme diciassette cortometraggi che sono considerati l’apice delle loro rispettive carriere. I due avevano già lavorato insieme come attori all’interno del gruppo comico The Keystone Cops diretti dal regista Mack Sennett. Dopo la loro separazione, Eddie Cline ebbe comunque una carriera di successo collaborando con attori come W. C. Fields dirigendo opere di un certo rilievo come Million dollar legs (1932).
Eddie Cline and Buster Keaton collaborated in the early 1920s; together, they directed seventeen shorts that are considered the highlights of their respective careers. The pair had already worked together as part of the Keystone Cops, a group that featured in a series of comedies directed by Mack Sennett. After they parted ways, Eddie Cline had a successful career. He collaborated with W.C. Fields and directed important works including Million dollar legs (1932).
