Buster and his neighbour fall in love and exchange messages of their devotion through a hole in the picket fence that divides their two houses. Their families are rivals who hate each other, and they try to separate the pair by any means possible. But Buster wants to marry the girl, and to accomplish this girl, he's ready to challenge his parents. He comes up with various gimmicks and circus acrobatics, before eventually calling a judge to marry them. Neighbors is the fifth short movie that Buster Keaton made for Metro Pictures Corporation in collaboration with Eddie Cline. The film is one of their most successful works. In it, the space of the two yards, divided by the picket fence, becomes the stage for the two lovers' adventures.
