Romain, fotografo di moda trentunenne, scopre che gli rimangono soltanto tre mesi di vita. Dopo un consulto con il medico decide di rifiutare le cure per il suo tumore: lascia il lavoro, allontana il compagno Sasha e fa di tutto per inimicarsi e ferire la sorella. L’unica persona della famiglia con cui riesce a confidarsi è sua nonna Laura. Mentre è in viaggio per raggiungere la nonna, incontra Jany che lavora come cameriera in un bar. La donna, concorde con il marito sterile, gli chiede di aiutarli a fare un bambino. Dopo una iniziale resistenza, Romain accetta di fare l’amore con la ragazza, a condizione che partecipi anche il marito. Jany rimarrà incinta. Prima di morire, Romain riallaccerà i rapporti con la sorella e farà testamento, riconoscendo il figlio e designandolo quale erede universale.
Romain, thirty-one-year-old fashion photographer, finds out that he has only three month to live. After a consultation with his doctor he decides to refuse medical treatment for his tumour: he quits his job, pushes away his partner Sasha and makes every effort to make his sister become hostile to him and to hurt her. The only person of the family to whom he is able to confide the truth is his grandmother Laura. On the way to his grandmother’s. he meets Jany who works as a waitress in a coffee. The woman, in agreement with her sterile husband, asks him to help them have a child. After an initial resistance, Romain accepts to make love with the girl, on the condition that her husband will participate too. Jany will get pregnant afterwards. Before dying, Roman gets back in touch with his sister and makes a will, recognising his son and naming him his sole heir.

François Ozon, nato a Parigi nel 1967, si laurea in cinema alla Sorbona e studia poi regia presso la Fémis. I suoi cortometraggi sono da subito proiettati e premiati in molti festival internazionali; esordisce nel lungometraggio con Sitcom (1998), presentato a Cannes nella Semaine de la Critique. Dopo Les Amants Criminels (1999) e Gocce d’acqua su pietre roventi (2000, tratto da una pièce di Fassbinder), il successo e la notorietà arrivano con titoli come Sotto la sabbia, 8 donne e un mistero (2002) e Swimming Pool (2003). Autore tra i più apprezzati del cinema europeo, tra i suoi film più recenti Il rifugio (2009), Potiche (2010), Giovane e bella (2013) e Una nuova amica (2014).
François Ozon, born in Paris in 1967, graduated in Cinema at the Sorbonne University and then studied direction at the Fémis. His shorts were displayed and awarded in several international festivals from the very start; his first feature film was Sitcom (1998), presented in Cannes during the Semaine de la Critique. After Les Amants Criminels (1999) and Water Drops on Burning Rocks (2000, based on a piece by Fassbinder), success and notoriety came with films like Under the Sand, 8 Woman (2002), and Swimming Pool (2003). One of the most appreciated directors of the European cinema, among his latest films The Refuge (2009), Potiche (2010), Young & Beautiful (2013) and The New Girlfriend (2014).
