In un piccolo paesino dominato da una centrale elettrica nel sud dell'Olanda, dove tutti sono connessi così come i cavi che ne sovrastano i cieli, vive la giovane Anne. Silenziosa e confusa, la ragazza non sì trova mai a suo agio con i suoi coetanei, che tiene debitamente a distanza ma da cui, in una realtà così piccola, è impossibile separarsi. Ma, con l'arrivo in paese della ribelle Lena, la monotona e noiosa estate di Anne, così come la sua stessa vita, cambierà irrimediabilmente. Ambientato nella calda atmosfera di un'estate olandese, è un film sui confini e sulle convenzioni che ne sono origine, un affascinante ritratto dell'adolescenza alla ricerca di un percorso lontano dal solco degli stereotipi per raggiungere e affermare la propria identità.
The young Anne lives in a small village dominated by a power station in the south of Holland, where everyone is as connected to one another as the cables in the sky. Quiet and confused, the girl never feels at ease with her friends, that she keeps to a distance even though in such a small town she can’t really be set apart from them. However, with the rebel Lela's coming, Anne's monotonous and boring summer, as her life itself, will change irremediably. Set in the hot atmosphere of a Dutch summer, Zomer is a movie about limits and the conventions originating them, a fascinating portrait of a teenager who looks for a path far from stereotypes to reach and to affirm her own identity.

Nasce ad Harare, Zimbawe, nel 1962. Dopo essersi laureata con lode in Psicologia e Comunicazione, inizia a girare i primi cortometraggi che la spingeranno ad iscriversi alla Dutch Film and Television Academy. Dal 1994 lavora come regista e sceneggiatrice per film e televisione. I suoi film più famosi sono One Way Ticket to Oblivion (1994), con cui vince il premio Panorama alla International Film Fest di Berlino, Dwaalgast (2005) e Black Swans (2005).
Born in Harare, Zimbawe, in 1962. After graduating cum laude in Psychology and Communications, she begins to shoot her first shorts which lead her to attend the Dutch Film and Television Academy. Since 1994, she works as a director and screenwriter for films and television. Her most famous movies are One Way Ticket to Oblivion (1994), awarded the Panorama prize at the International Film Fest of Berlin, Dwaalgast (2005) e Black Swans (2005).
