Alla morte di Christian Dior viene nominato responsabile della prestigiosa casa di moda il giovanissimo Yves Saint Laurent. L'amore con Pierre Bergé, conosciuto alla sua prima sfilata, l'apice della sua carriera, gli anni tra il '67 e il '76. Le gioie e le sofferenze di colui che voleva essere il migliore della sua generazione, che voleva far scendere la moda nelle strade e vestire la donna moderna, in un mondo che cambia, inondato di festa e spensieratezza. Biografia non autorizzata dello stilista francese, un film viscontiano che riesce a restituire il fascino che promanava dalla figura oggi mitica di YSL, cogliendo tutta la fragilità e l’esaltazione di un corpo incarnato magnificamente da un Gaspar Ulliel circondato da un cast stellare.
After Christian Dior's death the young Yves Saint Laurent is appointed manager of the prestigious fashion house. The love story with Pierre Bergé, met at his first fashion show. The peak of his career between 1967 and 1976. The happiness and sufferings of a man who wanted to be the best of his generation, who wanted to bring his fashion on the streets and to dress the modern woman, in an ever-changing world, flooded with parties and carelessness. It is an unauthorized biography of the French fashion designer, a Visconti-like movie that conveys the charm of YSL mythological figure and captures the frailty and the excitement of a character beautifully interpreted by Gaspar Ulliel, surrounded by a stellar cast.

Nato nel 1969, vive tra Parigi e Montréal. Arrivato al cinema tramite la musica, il suo primo lungometraggio, Quelque chose d’organique (1998) è stato presentato nella sezione Panorama del Festival di Berlino. Le pornographe (2001) è stato selezionato per la Semaine de la critique di Cannes e ha vinto il premio FIPRESCI. Bonello impone la sua voce singolare e il suo mondo con Tiresia (2003), in competizione al Festival di Cannes. Nel 2005 ritorna a Cannes con un corto, Cindy, the Doll is Mine. Continua producendo musica e, nel 2007, esce My New Picture: un album nato per accompagnare un film presentato al Festival di Locarno. Nel 2008, De la guerre, è stato selezionato per la Quinzaine des réalisateurs e nel 2011 L’Apollonide è ancora una volta in concorso a Cannes.
Born in 1968, he lives between Paris and Montréal. He came to cinema through music. His first feature film, Something Organic (1998), was presented at the Berlin Festival (Panorama). The Pornographer (2001) was selected for the International Critics’ Week at Cannes and won the FIPRESCI prize. Bertrand Bonello imposes his singular voice and world with Tiresia (2003), in Competition at the Festival de Cannes. In 2005 he returns to Cannes with a short, Cindy, the Doll is Mine. He continues making music and, in 2007, releases My New Picture: an album to accompany a film presented at the Locarno Festival. In 2008, On War was selected for the Directors’ Fortnight and in 2011 House of Tolerance participates to the official competition in Cannes.
