Michel vive in un ospedale psichiatrico da molti anni. Blaise Othnin-Girard è affascinato da questa figura fuori da qualsiasi canone, compresi quelli ai quali vorrebbe ridurlo un isolamento forzato. Arte, amore, amicizia nelle parole di Michel sembrano diversi. «Mi sembra che il paradiso… è un amore che ti trapassa il ventre e che ti rende davvero felice… una sensazione come di esplosione d’amore in un luogo lontano. È un luogo in cui si può godere, il paradiso». Il regista non vede Michel dai tempi dell’appartamento terapeutico di Mâcon, nel 2001, dove abitava prima che insorgessero alcuni problemi. Lo ritrova adesso all’ospedale in una Unità di Psichiatria Complessa: un settore chiuso e silenzioso. La sue parole si rivelano tra dolore e resistenza, humour e lucidità, lasciando intravedere una storia d’amore tra corpi impediti.
Michel has been living in a psychiatric hospital for many years. Blaise Othnin-Girard is fascinated by this figure who rejects all kind of rules, even those that would see him put in solitary confinement. Art, love, friendship, in Michel’s words they all seem different. «To me paradise… is a love that cuts through your stomach and makes you truly happy… it’s like a love explosion in the distance. Paradise is a place where you can thrive». The director hasn’t seen Michel since 2001, when he still lived in a therapeutic apartment in Mâcon, before his conditions got worse. He meets him again now in the Acute Psychiatric Unit: a secluded and quiet area in the hospital. His words unveil pain and resistance, humour and awareness, and they hint at a love story between inept bodies.

Nel 1989 ha conosciuto la realtà psichiatrica di Mâcon e ha deciso di cominciare un progetto pluriennale che prevedeva la realizzazione di un film ogni 10 anni. Nel 2009, alla sua terza volta, decide di approfondire la conoscenza di Michel. Attraverso la sua storia il tentativo del regista è quello di addentrarsi nei misteri della mente umana, in una dimensione che riguarda la condizione dell’uomo, al di là del tempo e dello spazio.
In 1989 He got to know the psychiatric network in Mâcon and he decided to start a long project aiming at the production of a movie every ten years. In 2009 – it was his third time – he decided to get to know Michel on a deeper level. Through Michel’s story, the director tries to explore the mysteries of the human mind, on a level that concerns the human condition, beyond time and space.
