Basato su una storia vera, Pride è una commedia sociale ambientata nell’epoca thatcheriana durante lo storico sciopero dei minatori del 1984. Un gruppo di attivisti del movimento gay, spinti dalla solidarietà verso chi, come loro, lotta contro il sistema, decide di raccogliere fondi per gli scioperanti del Galles. I minatori però accolgono con diffidenza l’iniziativa, considerando il sostegno di lesbiche e gay inopportuno e imbarazzante. L’incontro fra i due mondi, difficile per non dire esplosivo, sarà la base per una sorprendente amicizia reciproca. Accolta trionfalmente al Festival di Cannes e salutata da un enorme successo di pubblico nel Regno Unito, una commedia irresistibile che è stata uno dei casi cinematografici del 2014.
Based on a true story, Pride is a social comedy set during the Thatcherism while the historic miner’s strike of 1984 was taking place. A group of gay activists decides to raise money to support some Welsh picketers out of solidarity towards those who struggle, like they do, against the system. But at first the miners mistrust their action, considering gays and lesbians support as inopportune and embarrassing. The encounter between these two worlds, though difficult not to say explosive, will become the base of an astonishing and mutual friendship. Triumphantly welcomed at Cannes Festival, and saluted by a great success of public in the UK, Pride is a compelling comedy, a great hit of 2014.

Nasce il 24 Ottobre 1966 a Rochester, nella contea del Kent, in Inghilterra. È un regista e scrittore, ha studiato musica e arti drammatiche alla Bristol University e ha diretto moltissime opere teatrali e musical. Prima di Pride, vincitore della Queer Palm al festival di Cannes del 2014, aveva diretto nel 1999 Inganni Pericolosi.
He was born on October 24th, 1966 in Rochester, Kent, England. He is a director and writer, he studied music and drama at Bristol University and he directed plenty of theatrical works and musicals. Before Pride, who won the Queer Palm at Cannes Film Festival in 2014, he directed Simpatico in 1999.
