Stella e Dot stanno insieme da 31Stella e Dot stanno insieme da 31anni e sono state vicine fedelmente l’unaall’altra attraverso gli alti e bassi delle lorovite. Ora che sono settantenni, Stella sentemale e Dot è legalmente cieca. La nipote– un po’ bigotta – di Dot decide che ilposto migliore per lei è una casa di curache si occuperà di tutte le sue esigenze.Ciò obbliga Stella e Dot a prendere unadecisione netta: lasciare la loro città etrasferirsi in Canada, dove il matrimoniotra persone dello stesso sesso è legale.Verso il Canada, raccolgono un giovaneautostoppista: un ragazzo di provinciatrasformatosi in ballerino, che sta tornandoin Nuova Scozia per far visita alla madrein punto di morte. Nonostante la suaspocchia, è un’anima confusa e ferita cheimparerà molto da Stella e Dot mentre dichiaranola loro inattesa battaglia – dopotre decadi, riusciranno a tenere insieme laloro famiglia?

En route to Canada,they pick up a young hitchhiker, a smalltownboy turned modern dancer, who isreturning to Nova Scotia to visit his dyingmother. Despite his bravado, he isa confused and wounded soul who hasmuch to learn from Stella and Dot as theywage their own unexpected battle — afterthree decades, can they keep their familytogether?

Indipendenti e sempre inclinialla provocazione, i film di Fitzgerald sonodominati da personaggi forti e gli hannofatto guadagnare un posto di prestigiotra i principali registi canadesi. Tra i suoilungometraggi: Hanging Garden (1997), Beefcake (1998), Wolf Girl (2001), The WildDogs (2002), The Event (2003) e 3 Needles (2005). È stato inoltre regista, produttoree autore di cortometraggi, di documentarie per la televisione. Ha vinto oltre due dozzine di premi internazionali, tra cui un Geniee il premio della critica Fipresci, mentre è statoper tre volte ospite in anteprima al SundanceFilm Festival. Fitzgerald ha fondato la sua casadi produzione indipendente (Emotion Pictures) nel 1996.
He is an award-winning director,writer and producer. Independent and alwaysprovocative, Fitzgerald’s character-drivenfilms have earned him a place amongst Canada’s leading filmmakers. His featurefilms include The Hanging Garden (1997), Beefcake (1998), Wolf Girl (2001), The WildDogs (2002), The Event (2003) and 3 Needles (2005). He has also workedas a director, producer and writer on shortfilms, documentaries, and for television.He has won more than two dozen internationalawards including a Genie, the FIPRESCI European International Critics’ Prize,and he is a three-time premiere guestof the Sundance Film Festival. Fitzgeraldfounded his independent production company,Emotion Pictures, in 1996.
