Regista, attrice, montatrice, direttrice della fotografia: la poliedrica autrice nasce a Londra nel 1955 e comincia a girare brevi ritratti documentaristici negli anni Ottanta, per esempio con Moi non ou l’argent de Patricia (1981). La rivelazione è Récréations (1993), tutto ambientato dentro un cortile di scuola, ma i suoi temi spaziano dal lavoro (Coûte que coûte, 1995) alle storie di donne (Sinon, oui, 1997), costruendo una carriera basata sul ritratto e l’empatia con esseri umani spesso ai margini del sociale. I suoi film sono passati dai principali festival del mondo, da Cannes a Locarno passando per Venezia (Le concours) e Berlino (Notre corps); la regista è stata spesso inoltre ospite del Sicilia Queer filmfest, nel 2016 con Le bois dont les rêves sont faits (2015) e nel 2022 con Vous ne désirez que moi (2021), oltre che come prima ospite delle Nuove Lezioni Siciliane del 2017.

Director, actress, editor, cinematographer: the multifaceted author was born in London in 1955 and started to shoot brief documentary portraits in the ’80s, for example with Moi non ou l’argent de Patricia (1981). Her fame started with Récréations (1993), all set into a schoolyard; nevertheless, her themes range from work issues (At All Costs, 1995) to women stories (A Foreign Body, 1997), building a career based on the portraiture and sympathy with individuals marginalized in society. Her films have been screened at major world festivals, from Cannes to Locarno, and include screenings at Venice (Le concours, 2016) and Berlin (Notre Corps, 2023); the director was often invited by Sicilia Queer, for example in 2016 with The Woods Dreams Are Made Of (2015) and in 2022 with I Want to Talk About Duras (2021), in addition to the Nuove Lezioni Siciliane in 2017.
