Nella mitologia greca Narciso è un cacciatore che disdegna ogni persona che lo ama. A seguito di una maledizione inflittagli dagli dei, s’innamora della sua immagine riflessa, annegando in un lago. Allo stesso modo Yamazaki, illustratore settantenne, dà la caccia a giovani ragazzi nei sobborghi di Tokyo. Non riesce ad accettare la sua vecchiaia che manda in frantumi la bella immagine di sé da giovane. L’incontro con l’avvenente Leo sembra infondergli rinnovata fiducia, ma il masochismo da “vecchio narciso” riaffiora sinistro, portandolo ad autoinfliggersi nuove pene e a sprofondare nell’abisso del dolore.
Un melodramma nel solco della tradizione giapponese che affronta i temi cruciali dell’invecchiamento e della solitudine pur mantenendo una buona freschezza narrativa, con originali idee visive e un colorismo musicale in grado di smorzare la componente patetica.

In Greek mythology, Narcissus is a hunter who disdains every person who loves him. Following a curse inflicted on him by the gods, he falls in love with his reflection, drowning in a lake. Similarly, Yamazaki, a seventy-year-old illustrator, is hunting young boys in the suburbs of Tokyo. He cannot accept his old age that shatters the beautiful image of himself as a young man. The encounter with the attractive Leo seems to infuse him with renewed confidence, but the "old narcissus" masochism resurfaces sinisterly, leading him to self-inflict new pains and sink into the abyss of pain.
A melodrama in the wake of the Japanese tradition that addresses the crucial themes of aging and loneliness while maintaining a good narrative freshness, with original visual ideas and a musical colourism which is able to dampen the pathetic component.

Ha iniziato la sua carriera fin dai tempi in cui era studente presso la Musashino Art University di Tokyo. Il suo primo lavoro, Lost in the Garden, è stato presentato al Tokyo International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, vincendo il Premio speciale della giuria nel 1995. In seguito si è dedicato a un’ampia produzione che annovera titoli legati sia al cinema indipendente, sia a quello commerciale, tra cui la serie di film Kenka Bancho (2008 - 2011) e The OneeChanbara Vortex, ispirati a famosi videogiochi giapponesi. È, inoltre, un professionista degli effetti speciali: tali espedienti tecnici caratterizzano trasversalmente la sua filmografia. Il cortometraggio Old Narcissus ha trionfato come miglior corto giapponese al Sapporo Short Fest 2018; si è poi aggiudicato il Grand Prize al Rainbow Reel Tokyo e il premio per la migliore sceneggiatura allo Shanghai Queer Film Fest 2018.

He started his career when he was a student at the Musashino Art University in Tokyo. His first work, Lost in the Garden, was presented at the Tokyo International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, winning the Special Jury Prize in 1995. He later devoted himself to an extensive production that includes titles related to both independent and commercial cinema, including the film series Kenka Bancho (2008 - 2011) and The OneeChanbara Vortex, inspired by famous Japanese video games. He is also a professional of special effects: these technical expedients characterize transversally his filmography. The short film Old Narcissus triumphed as the best Japanese short film at Sapporo Short Fest 2018; it then won the Grand Prize at Rainbow Reel Tokyo and the award for best screenplay at the Shanghai Queer Film Fest 2018.
